Packing...

I am packing... preparing my trip to China. Of course, I am not even close to getting ready yet.

Today was my last day at work until July 21st. I just bought a new compact digital camera on my way back home... And guess what, a smile detector is integrated! Here is a small question : in which country will it be most easily triggered?? From what I've seen recently, I would not bet on anyone in the 7:35am subway I've been taking for the last 9 months... I'd probably go with Brazil or Argentina as a first guess. Please take your bet...

Yaayy, winter hollidays!!! (well, almost)

Hi all! For those of you who don't know me, my name is Gustav and its my fault that this blog is not in french (i.e. I'm also going on the trip and unfortunately my french vocabulary is limited to curseworsds).
As the title of this post implies I'm done with the main part of my exams so now I have some time to post on the blog. The last few days I've been working like crazy sleeping two to three hours per night but I guess that's a just punishment for doing nothing the entire semester.
For me the trip starts in Valparaíso, Chile, where I am currently doing an exchange-study program. Last semester I was studying physics (in which I would have been getting a masters this year if it wasn't for this trip). This semester I'm taking some easy courses in basic economics and improving my spanish (or my chilean, the local dialect is supposedly the most distinct and complicated spanish in the world so the rest of south america should be easy!).
During my year in Chile I've travelled almost the entire country and made some short trips to Peru and Argentina. Everything I've seen so far has been marvelous and I'm really looking forward to the trip!

Job Interviews' Week

This week is the week of my last chance... Either I find a job before I leave, or I'll just have to wait until January before I can make a decision! I guess I could always go with a WannaKillBabySeals kind of job, but I am not total-ly sure that would be the right choice.

Visa to China...

I just got my Visa from the Chinese Embassy... Yannick is getting married in China in the beginning of July... I could obviously not let that happen without being there, so I am flying to Beijing on July 1st. I'll be staying there for three weeks. I want to climb the great wall (which can not be seen from space, by the way, thank you Lars alias Wikipedia). I am unfortunately getting back to work on July 21st, but it will only be for another month, which means I should make it to Lima on August 28th!

Too bad I will have a busy week : lots to do before being out of office for 3 weeks. And I am still trying to find a job for when I get back. Wish me luck for this afternoon's interview :-S

Good news : today, a friend of Sophie gave me contacts in Bolivia. I am hoping to stay there for three weeks or more probably in the jungle, on our way from Lima to Rio. That's a good start!

English ?!?

I got some "Why is this blog written in English?"... Well, the answer is quite simple : Gustav is a Swede (and I'm french, by the way, which is the best excuse to a poor english). We met during my double degree year in KTH, Stockholm. Moreover, I vote against writing in swedish (which is only understood by 15 million people, being very generous). French, spanish, english comments are welcome (I might even accept swedish comments).

Trip Presentation

There we are, the meeting in Lima is set to August 28th... It's been quite a while now since Gustav and I wanted to take a break (him in his studies, me right after my graduation). We have not prepared much yet, all we know is that we are going on a four-month trip, because we already have the flight tickets. It may sound crazy, but that is pretty much all we have so far (apart from vaccinations).
I reported the flights we booked on the map in the right panel, but as you can notice there is a 3-month gap between Lima and Ushuaïa. Any comment or idea about what to do here and then is most welcome.
