I have not had time to read carefully the news, but I heard that Bolivia's situation is going down... So far, we are considering to go to La Paz, which should remain safe. The situation is quite bad in the east of the country (Santa Cruz,....) so we might fly directly from La Paz to Brazil.
Apparently, the Swedish embassy does not "not recommend" to go to Bolivia yet. If you have some suggestion or news we might not be aware of, please comment on this post...

Hi,
I sent you an email with the recommendations from the French Foreign Affairs Ministery.
You should read it carefully, and consider avoiding to go through Bolivia if possible...
Best Regards Jean-Yves
Once again dad is faster than i am... He obviously spends more time on the computer than i do ;)...
Anyway all i can add is that you should check out this website :

Hi,
I just sent you comments from the brittish foreign department by e-mail. Seems to be updated today. Take care.
Have you got any shoes yet Pierre?
I'd suggest a game : you go to bolivia in 2 different directions with a tourist t-shirt and a big golden watch. the first one who gets kidnapped has lost.
Thanks for all the recomendations,we have yet to decide whether to go with the golden-watch-competition-idea of otarie molle, or to listen to everyone else... We´ll keep you updated!
Ok, I don't want to send you in a burning place BUT : if your do read carefully the French Foreign Affairs Ministery wepsite, you'll never leave France. The funny thing is, I really wonder what they might write about France if they had to (WARNING! some riots happened in Paris a couple of years ago! Some SRAS birds were found in several places! Paris is full of thieves! etc)
I don't want to mean you shouldn't be careful. I just say Bolivia has been "not fully recommended" for several years, as for Nepal and other countries. It doesn't mean you can't go (it's not Afghanistan yet), it means you should be careful... and better trust people who just arrived from Bolivia than people who get information by French authorities in France.
Conclusion : good luck anyway. And don't worry, do what you want, not what you're told to.
Yep, faites attention :)
Si vous ne le sentez pas, c'est pas la peine d'y aller ;)
Hejhopp
finns det några myggor där? När vi städade igår så hittade vi 4 oöppnade förpackningar av "Mygga". Om ni behöver så kan vi skicka!

Hi,
Pierre, you should send a congratulation letter to the French Post Office !... Your postard sent from China to your Grandmother arrived, despite a wrong number, a wrong street name and a wrong zipcode !....
The postman thought probably he should make an effort for a postcard coming from such a remote place !...
Best Regards Jean-Yves
PS Your Grandmother was very happy to receive the card !...
PS2 Maybe the indication "in front of the station" was helpful...
After reading in today's newspaper about 33 dead in Bolivia (http://www.dn.se/DNet/jsp/polopoly.jsp?a=828072 - in Swedish) I set out to aquire an opinion of my own. Searching for Bolivia + säkerhet, the very first hit was http://alskadebeijing.blogspot.com/2006/04/backpackers-sanning.html (also in Swedish). The bottom line is: Why listen to an occasional backpacker who happened to be lucky rather than rely on reports from locals and authorities with an overview. I suppose this is the point of view I would be inclined to take. -If you ask me ...

Gustav, Also the Peruvian + Swedish Mail have surpassed themselves. Your postcard from Lima reached us in less than a week in spite of not having a specific addressee, just "Alla" (all). Thank you!
Stefan
