Well, after a couple days of chilling and getting better in Arequipa (2300m). We eventually decided what we will be doing next... This week is going to be craaazy, NOT in the same sense as the last couple days - too bad there are (almost) no pictures. I eventually managed to get a good night of sleep this night (I owe that to my earplugs...).
Sooo : here is the plan. Tomorrow, we are leaving at 6am for a three-day trek in the Colca canyon (donde el condor pasa...). We should be back in town around 6pm on Tuesday, so we can post some pictures of the deepest canyon (yes, over 3300m)...
This trek will also be a good way to acclamatize to the altitude (although I dont think we'll be beating the Mont Blanc on this one).
After a short night of sleep at the hostel (get up at 6am again...), we'll be heading towards the base camp (4300m) of the Misti Volcano, where we'll be sleeping on Wednesday night.
Thursday is going to be the longest day : get up at 3am, climb up to the top (5885m, or Mont Blanc+1080m), then run all the way down. The idea is to make it to the night bus to Cusco, leaving at 8.30pm on the same day (not showering before, people are going to love us!).
This way, we should make it to Cusco by Friday morning, giving us a couple days of partying there...
PS : Thank you all, we just passed over 600 visits today...

Hi,
Thank you for the altitude details...
Will you see the Colca Canyon from the top ? If you take this opportunity to get accustomed to altitude I can imagine it will be the case...
I hope your longest day will be OK for both of you. Read from here it seems a little bit challenging !... ;-)
Best regards Jean-Yves
600 visits ? The how come the counter is only at 341 ? There's gotta be something i'm missing...
Tell us if there are any Lamas (is it the rigth word in english ?) at Cusco :-)
Hum, i agree with JY, your longest day seems sooo challlenging to me too; espacially your then-all-the-way-down stuff, you really sure...?
anyway just like greg i can't see no 600 visits...
Hi,
Where did the last five meters vanish ?
The last official altitude measurement of the Mont-Blanc (September 2007) is 4810 m. If you add 1080 m you obtain 5890 m, i.e. 5 meters above your planned 5885 m summit...
How will you climb the last 5 meters ?
Best Regards (
these 5 meters are nothing compared to your planned trek...)
Jean-Yves
Don't forget the coca agaist the dangerous MAM (mal des montagnes), it can only be good....(hophhop don't pretend you re sick though, doesn't work that way....;)
Hi,
And I am sure you will be happy to test the physiological effects of the variation of pressure with altitude. At 5885 m you will have to breathe twice as much air to get the same oxygen as you would have at sea level ! So if you have difficulties climbing the last 500 m or more don't be surprised !...
The good news is : the situation will improve every minute when you go down !...
Best regards Jean-Yves
Soooo :
About the counter : I have added this one very lately... But Big Brother is watching you, I have 2 others counters (for stats)
I did see lamas.
I did see condors.
My legs hurt (2 more days...).
I am a little bit acclimatized to the altitude (we were at about 3000m in average over the last three days)...
We booked super comfortable seats (beds in fact) for the bus to Cusco... and I will take a picture.
And the picture being uploaded (see next post...) is the proof that I have been up to 4910m, which is way enough to beat the Mont-Blanc!
Isn't gravity lessening with Altitude? If yes, I only need 3 more meters with my arms up.
And against dangerous MAM, I have pills....
Hot springs are for Germans.
Any question? :-)
And if you want more counters, you can check the sitemeter link in the bottom of the blog.
So, how many lamas ? :-)
Are you sure it was not a cursed prince (yeah, i know, this one was easy.. And maybe not so funny, but i don"t care : only those who have a real humor will understand :-p )
Will you add a counter for each country-specific animal ? I think this could be funny :)
Soooo many lamas... I did not count them, but I dont think there could be as many cursed princes...
